My Remote is Creepy…

The other day I went on a search for a device that would eliminate the sudden influx of remotes that was the side effect of setting up a home theater at my house. I had decided that a 15 step, 5 remote process was just a little too much, especially with the wife making ME turn it all on or off for her. If it’s one thing I do not enjoy, its troubleshooting my own entertainment system over the phone at work three times a day.

I have had my eye on the Logitech Harmony 520 for a few years now, and with the wife fed up with our current state of remote control confusion, she un-shackled the bank account and authorized the expense of $100 for the remote which “had better do the laundry too at that price!” After a few half hours of configuring the remote, I can safely say that the entire family is happy with it…

Except me.

The accursed thing is haunted or possessed I swear! Like all “good” remotes it glows with a pleasant backlight so you can operate it in the dark without having to either turn on a light or attempt to use the T.V.’s meager illumination to read the buttons. But as of late it has been turning on its backlight by itself. Not just at random times either, but when I am just starting to think about watching the T.V. or when I step in the door in the morning after night shift. The thing just lights up on its own, beckoning me over to enjoy a world of intangible delights….
