Plot Summary: Takamachi Nanoha was just an ordinary 3rd grader attending classes and enjoying life with her friends and family. And though she enjoyed this life, she quietly began feeling a sense of disconnect forming between herself and others. One day after experiencing a strange dream, she was heading home with her friends when she suddenly heard a strange voice calling out to her. Finding a wounded ferret with a shining red jewel around its neck, she soon finds herself enveloped in a quest to protect her home and her friends while battling a strange girl in black for 21 mystical items called “Jewel Seeds.”

Series Review: This is perhaps one of my favorite animes since I found the story so touching. While the appearance of this story initially starts of with the generic “ordinary girl turns into magical girl” formula, I think perhaps the most telling part of this story is the amount of effort the author placed into Nanoha’s character. Honest, naive and pure, her attitude and actions reflect her inner feelings; and it helps drive this story. With her interactions with friends, family, her eventual rivalry with Fate, the storyline compels the viewer to observe each episode with a compassionate heart and an open mind.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is a 13 episode series which isn’t simply a good will vanquish evil plot. Rather, Nanoha’s pure mind and motives reflect another option most would consider futile. As her struggles ensue between Fate and Arf, one begins understanding her motives and desires and can appreciate her efforts. The drama that unfolds as Nanoha and Fate’s struggle to obtain the 21 Jewel Seeds makes for some great moments in anime history and the climax built throughout this series is worth the watch.

Closing Remarks: If you love drama, comedy and a good story, I would recommend this series. Bare in mind that while there is a good amount of action, the series is based upon the life of a 3rd grade student so content might not compare to the likes of Sailor Moon or other magical girl shows featuring the typical 16 year old. Also, something to bare in mind is this series has been remade in movie form for those of your who wish to see a more condensed version. Overall, great show, worth a look.

College, Health and Blog Updates

Posted on September 19th, 2010 in Main Page by obsan

It’s been one heck of a semester so far in college. Between my college classes, health issues and homework, I’ve barely had time to do much of anything. Needless to say, because of that, my blog entries are behind.

One the plus side though, I’ve devised a plan to do my final reviews on current ending series so it won’t be nearly as time consuming once I’ve caught up watching everything. And, I’ve also decided on which shows I tend to do full reviews on which have already finished airing. Right now I’m working on the following reviews:

Anime Reviews in Progress:

– Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

– Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A’s

– Koihime Musō

– Gunsmith Cats

– Blood: Final Vampire (Live Action)

Please look forward to the reviews!
