BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

So I’ve been absolutely obsessed by this game ever since I got it.  Hands down my favorite 2D fighter and maybe the best fighting game I’ve ever played.  Period.  It is just incredible.  They’ve done so many unique things with all the characters in the game and made sure not a single character played like any of the others.  Really inventive ideas going on with some of the characters, like Rachel who has the ability to control wind to move her or other objects around the arena, or Tager who is one of the big, slow types but has the ability to magnetize his opponents and thus being able to draw them in for attacks and grabs.  Just absolutely great ways to really make the play original in a field where it feels like true originality has been long gone.  I’m still far from mastering this game and probably won’t be for a long time.  I still want to get a fighting stick at some point, but unfortunately a good one will probably cost me about $100, $80 maybe if I can get lucky and find a good deal somewhere.  For now I’ve been using Jin for the people not in the know ice-type powers and can freeze his opponents to create and extend combos.  Still having a rather tough time getting some of the combos done in actual battle, but practice makes perfect.

It was great when I got the game on a complete whim.  I went into Gamestop wanting a new PS3 and was just planning on buying a cheap, used game.  But when I walked into the store I saw the new BlazBlue boxes and was reminded that this game was coming out and how awesome it looked so I just decided right then and there that I was gonna buy it.  I was lucky I was able to as for BlazBlue the Limited Edition was released 1 month before the Standard Edition (which I don’t think has come out yet even today) and they had taken preorders for the LE, but they had a few extra copies so I was able to buy one right there.  Unfortunately I ran into a minor snag when my debit card kept coming up as Invalid PIN, Invalid Name, Invalid Address, etc.  Absolutely no clue why as I could withdraw money with no problem right after that happened and I’ve been using it since then without any problems, but whatever.  I was lucky my friend was with me as I did not have enough cash to buy it so he put the game on his card and we walked over the atm where I gave him the money for it.  Problem solved and crisis averted.

Anyway, LE was totally worth it.  It came with a bonus disc with tutorials and tips for all the game mechanics and videos for every character.  Not to mention it came with the 2 disc BlazBlue Soundtrack, which I just listened to for the first time today.  It really surprised me as the OST is quite excellent.  Full of a lot of different hard-rock tunes to go with the style of the game.

Anyway, if you have a PS3 or Xbox360 do yourself a favor and go play the game.  Or a PS3 specifically if you want to play with me. 🙂
