Final Review: Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X)

DISCLAIMER: Anime reviews on this blog will attempt minimal to no spoilers unless other noted. If a review seems dull or shallow, it’s because I’m trying to make sure not to go into too detail for those who are actually interested in the show before or after reading the review or those who have yet to finish the title. If you want further details, there are usually tons of reviews that can be found elsewhere on the internet. Furthermore, anime reviews in general are the sole opinion of the author writing it and thus differ across the users. There is no such thing as a “right answer” only a majority agreement. You are free to have your own opinions and thereby free to state and/or argue/debate in the comments section below or on the Fansub TV Forums. The review is not necessarily meant to serve as a recommendation but rather a personal opinion of having completed the series.

Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X) is based off an ongoing manga that began serialization in 2006. The anime premiered during the Spring 2012 anime season with a simulcast by CrunchyRoll and a US license by Sentai Filmworks. The anime is a 13 episode series following Akira Tsubaki who decides to taste the leftover drool of his classmate, Mikoto Urabe, when she fell asleep in class. The result is gets sick but in a withdrawal manner, meaning he can’t live without her drool anymore. Thus, the relationship between Mikoto and Akira began where they met each other every so often such that Mikoto would give Akira some of her drool so that Akira would not continue to suffer his withdrawal symptoms. Okay…this show already sounds weird enough as is, so I’ll stop there with the introduction…

(The) New Prince of Tennis or The Prince of Tennis II is a sequel to the National Championship OVAs as well as the original TV series that ran during the last decade. The Prince of Tennis II ran during the Winter 2012 anime season and was simulcasted by CrunchyRoll with no US DVD/BD license planned. It primarily follows the arc when Seigaku middle school tennis team joins many other middle school players as well as high school teams at a rigorous training camp for the upcoming U-17 tournament. And for those wondering, this is not an original work, there is a New Prince of Tennis manga associated with it. Since this series is a season old now, I’ll try to keep the review brief.
